Introduction

The Faculty of Software Engineering was established in 2007 and named the Department of Software Engineering. In September 2022, the Department of Software Engineering was changed to the Faculty of Software Engineering (FSE).

The FSE has the highly qualified staffs (including 01 Associate Professor, 09 PhDs, 07 Masters and 02 Engineers) -most of them were trained from advanced education countries (such as France, Belgium, Netherlands, Taiwan, etc.). The FSE has been in charge of training two undergraduate programs in the field of Software Engineering. Besides, lecturers of FSE have also supported teaching, appraising, and evaluating other training programs, guiding master and Ph.D students for other universities located at provinces of the South region of Vietnam.

In terms of training, FSE is in charge of managing 02 Bachelor of engineering programs in Software Engineering (01 program taught in Vietnamese, 01 program taught in English). The software engineering training program has been implemented since 2007 based on the training program framework of ACM (Association for Computing Machinery) with the approval of the Ministry of Education and Training of Vietnam; and continuously improved periodically. The software engineering training program was internally self-evaluated according to the standards of the Ministry of Education and Training in 2008; internally self-assessed according to AUN-QA standards in 2010; internally self-assessed according to ABET standards in 2015; and assessed to meet international accreditation standards AUN-QA in 2021. On that basis, high-quality Bachelor of engineering program in Software Engineering has also been implemented since 2022. It is expected that in 2023, the Faculty will open a Master's degree in Software Engineering.

The Software Engineering program equips students with in-depth knowledge of processes, methods, techniques and technologies in analysis, design, programming, testing & quality assurance, project management, and software maintenance. Learners have the ability to develop software systems in the main directions such as: embedded software on mobile devices, electronic devices, control devices, etc.; professional management software for agencies, businesses, etc.; agent-oriented software used to simulate problems of climate change, traffic, farming, epidemics, etc.; IoT applications, sensor networks in environmental monitoring and forecasting. In addition, learners are also provided with basic knowledge about organization and management of software engineering to be able to negotiate, work effectively and communicate well with partners in the software development environment.

Students after graduating from Software Engineering can have career opportunities such as: Software engineerswith the various roles - analyst, designer, programmer, tester, maintainer, team leader, pect manager in software companies; experts in organizations applied information technology; researchers or lecturers at universities, colleges; etc. Currently, the majority of Software Engineering graduates have jobs. Many engineers work in large software enterprises such as FPT Fsoft, TMA Solution, Harvey Nash Vietnam, Global CyberSoft, etc. There are graduates who open their own companies operating in the field of software development.

Regarding scientific research, members of FSE have experience in chairing, participating in, consulting, implementing or reviewing many projects at various levels: institutional, ministerial and governmental levels. Typically, members of FSE are chairman or key members of ministerial-level scientific research projects on E-learning and distance training, on optimizing the brown plantpper monitoring network using light traps automatically in the Mekong Delta,…. Currently, the products of projects have been widely deployed and applied effectively in practice.

In addition, members of FSE have also chaired and participated in many projects in cooperation with localities in Can Tho and other provinces such as An Giang, Dong Thap, Soc Trang on information search, data mining, forecasting and simulation, IoT systems in warning aquaculture, etc. Many scientific articles/presentations have been published in prestigious journals and conferences on the list of ISI/Scopus and the list of the State Councils. Members of FSE are also involved in research, cooperation, support, advisory and technology transfer in the field of Information Technology with partners in the Mekong Delta and the South of Vietnam.

Thmain goal of FSE is to become a reputable training and scientific research institution in software engineering, play a pivotal role in training, research, and technology transfer to the region Mekong Delta. The training program is constantly expanding in size and form; always keep the AUN-QA quality standard as recognized by the standards of advanced universities in Vietnam as well as in Southeast Asia.

FSE welcomes all support and cooperation from agencies, enterprises, and software companies in the field of training and scientific research. You - as employers - come to us, share experiences, raise training requirements and participate in the process of training, assessment, training quality accreditation. Dr. Truong Minh Thai is a former student of Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science at Cantho University. He obtained his Doctorate in Computer Science from Toulouse 1 Capitole University (2015), France, and had obtained Master in Information System Development from HAN University (2010), Netherlands. He has a background in computer science and software engineering. He took the role of director of Cantho University Software Center from 2003 to 2008, lecturer of ICT college, Cantho University from 2002 until now. Currently, he is head of Software Engineering Dept., ICT College, Cantho University; a member of Can Tho University Board of Trustees Term 2020-2025. In his research, he focuses on data warehouse, Multi agent-based Systems, IoT, and applying these technologies in aquaculture and agriculture.

She is a lecturer in the Falculty of Software Engineering at the College of Information and Communication Technology, CanTho University. She received her B.S degree in Computer Science from Can Tho University in 1996. In 2000, she received her M.Sc. degree in Computer Science from Vrije Universiteit Brussel (VUB), Belgium. She is currently giving courses in basic programming (C, C ++), Data Structures, Algorithms and Software requirement analysis. Her research interests include complexity of the algorithm, and some areas in Artificial Intelligence (AI).

Hiep Xuan Huynh received the Engineer degree from Can Tho University (CTU), the master’s degree from the l’Institut de la Franco phonie pour l’Informatique (IFI), the Ph.D. degree from the Polytechnics School of Nantes University (Polytech’Nantes), and the Habilitation à Diriger des Recherches (HDR) degree from the l’Université de Bretagne Occidentale (UBO), all in computer science. He is currently an Associate Professor of computer science with the College of Information and Communication Technology, Can Tho University, Vietnam. His teaching courses include software process (introduction to software engineering, software architecture and design, software requirements engineering), project process (software project management) and development process (embedded software development). His research interests include modeling of decisions with interestingness measure and fuzzy integral, recommender systems with statistical implicative analysis, cyber-physical systems with cellular automata and wireless sensor networks, metrics for computer vision and population dynamics, agriculture, aquaculture, and environmental issues.

She obtained a Master degree in Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand; Ph.D degree in Computer Science from University of Science and Technology - The University of Danang, Vietnam. He received his B.S degree in Computer Science from Can Tho University in 2000. In 2009, he worked as a Researcher at the Software Engineering Research Group (AGSE), the Technical University of Kaiserslautern, Germany. Dr. Truong Xuan Viet obtained his Doctorate in Computer Science from Paris 6 University, France in 2014, and Master in Computer Science from Marne-La-Vallée University (Paris-Est), France (2007). He has a background in computer science and software engineering. He had two years working as the role of software programer from 2001 to 2003, after completing an undergraduate program in information technology at the Can Tho University (CTU), Vietnam. After that, he worked as the academic staff and lecturer for one IT training cooperation between CTU and Aptech Limited, India, on three main IT training programs: ACCP (Aptech Certified Computer Professional) from 2003, AMSP (Arena Multimedia Specialist Program) from 2011 and ACN Pro (Aptech Certified Next- Generation Professional) from 2020. He took the role of Deputy director of Cantho University Software Center from 2015, and then lecturer of ICT College, Cantho University from 2019 until now. In his research, he focuses on GIS, Multimedia, Multi Agent-based Systems, Network Security and Big Data.

Cu Vinh Loc received the B.Eng. degree in computer science from Can Tho University, Vietnam in 2001. He completed his M.Sc. degree from the Asian Institute of Technology, Thailand in 2009. He received his Ph.D. degree in Computer Science from the University of La Rochelle, France, in 2019. He has worked at Can Tho University Software Center since 2001. He has been involved in the AUDIMN Project and has actively contributed to the project. From January 2020 until now, he is a lecturer in the Department of Software Engineering, College of Information and Communication Technology, CanTho University, Vietnam. His research interests include document recognition and document processing, pattern recognition, document security, data hiding, IoT, and Big Data. He has actively participated in organizing international conferences, workshops, and summer school.

Dr. Nguyen Thanh Khoa is a former Bachelor of Engineering in Computer Science student at Cantho University in 2000. He obtained his Master’s degree in Information Systems from Cantho University in 2010. In 2019, he completed his research in Image processing and Computer vision and received a Ph.D. degree in Informatics and Applications from La Rochelle University, France. His main research interests include image segmentation, image processing, deep learning, graph theory, and complex network analysis.

He works in the domain "co-modeling" for modelers who can easily implement their solution or test different models coupling solutions.
